Berry Organic - Berry Radical contains 9 of the worlds most potent antioxidant SuperFoods:

Organic Berry
Raw Cacao (Chocolate!)

Grown and harvested ethically and sustainably in Ecuador, raw cacao berries contains the antioxidant polyphenols, catechin, epicatechin and gallic acid. Epicatechin and it's metabolites have been singled out as providing cacao's vasodilation benefits, which help protect against thrombosis formation and hypertension. Cacao provides significant protection to cardiovascular health, and has been found to provide more than 21 times the free radical protection of green tea. [1][2][3][4][5][6][7][8]

Cacao and Magnesium

Cacao berry is believed to be one of the best SuperFoods and perhaps the richest source of magnesium of any common food. Magnesium is one of the most important minerals in the body and is the number one mineral that assists and supports healthy heart function. It is vital for over 300 enzyme systems in the body – more than iron and zinc combined, yet nearly 70% of the population is deficient in magnesium.

Many experts believe even with a healthy diet, produce may still be grown in mineral-depleted soil and lacking in this vital nutrient. Studies have shown magnesium may have a beneficial effect on the cardiovascular system. Low magnesium levels have also been found in patients who have died from heart attacks. Magnesium has also been found to be beneficial in Asthma, where it promotes relaxation of the bronchial smooth muscle. Magnesium may help prevent calcium crystallizing in the kidneys to create kidney stones. Magnesium deficiency is strongly implicated in PMS. Symptoms like abdominal bloating, breast pain, headaches, fatigue, fluid retention, mood swings, insomnia and anxiety are all symptoms of magnesium deficiency and PMS! Magnesium supplementation is as important as calcium supplementation in the treatment and prevention of osteoporosis. It helps the body metabolise calcium and converts dietary vitamin D to an active form. Magnesium is also beneficial for Gastric Disturbances (heartburn and flatulence) as it neutralises the stomach acid converting it to magnesium chloride. With less acid available less gas is produced, resulting in alleviation of the symptoms. Magnesium may also help relieve constipation, by relieving pressure on the bowel and allowing fluid to soften bowel movements. Studies have found magnesium supplementation may help relieve tension headaches, muscle tension, and associated pain and cramps. Low magnesium levels have also been found in chronic migraine sufferers.

Raw Coffee Berry Concentrate Free Radical Scavenger

Like many plants, coffee distributes its powerful nutrition throughout the whole fruit, not just in the seed. Whole coffee berry is loaded with high concentrations of beneficial antioxidants and other extraordinary nutrients including polyphenols, chlorogenic, caffeic and ferulic acid. Coffee plants grow on the slopes of high-altitude volcanic mountainsides. Nourished by mineral-rich soil and warmed by intense tropical sunlight, coffee plants produce a profusion of wonderful bright red fruit. Coffee fruit is so exceptionally rich in antioxidants because it grows in high altitude, low-latitude regions where the sun's rays are strongest. As the plants mature, they develop powerful antioxidants to protect them from damage caused by high doses of the sun's radiation and the natural by-products of photosynthesis. One gram of our raw coffee concentrate provides the same free radical protection as over two kilograms of grapes.[9][10]

Raw Coffee Berry Concentrate and Glyconutrition. The whole coffee berry also contains many healthy poly-, oligo- and five of the eight essential mono-saccharides. Polysaccharides, such as mannans and aribinogalactans, make up nearly 50% of the raw coffee concentrate. Conventional roasting destroys these nutrients, so they're not found in traditional coffee. We all know that carbohydrates provide the 'fuel' that we use to run our bodies. Until recently, it was thought energy creation was the only role that carbohydrates played in our body.

During the last few years, however, emerging science has suggested that eight carbohydrates, Mannose, Galactose, Fucose, Xylose, Glucose, Sialic acid, N-Acetylglucosamine, and N-Acetylgalactosamine, are essential to life because they are the basic building blocks of all biological communication. Scientists believe that this family of eight mono- saccharides is essential in order for our immune systems to function properly. Raw coffee concentrate releases unusually high levels of mannose, galactose, fucose, xylose, arabinose and glucose during digestion.

Acai Berry Free Radical Scavenger

Wild harvested sustainably and fairly from the Amazon forest, the powerful purple berry, Acai (ah-sigh-ee) contains a potent antioxidant, anthocyanin. Anthocyanins are a group of phytochemicals found in red wine that are thought to contribute to the "French paradox", i.e. France has one of the lowest incidences of heart disease of any western society despite the prevalence of smoking and a diet high in saturated fat and cholesterol. Acai berry contains the potent antioxidant free radical scavenger, anthocyanin, at 10-30 times the concentration found in red wine. Other potential physiological effects of anthocyanins include radiation-protective, chemo-protective, vaso-protective and anti-inflammatory agents.[11][12][13]

Olive Berry Free Radical Scavenger

Olive oil has long been recognised as being very beneficial for health and longevity. Recently, Olive Berry has moved into the SuperFood category due to the high concentrations of antioxidant polyphenols extracted from the pulp of fresh, organically grown olives. Hydroxytyrosol is the natural olive polyphenol with the highest level of free radical protection activity ever reported for any natural antioxidant compound! While the olive has received most attention for its oil, until now the olive water, or juice, has been a mere by-product of olive production. In fact, disposal of the juice has been costly for the industry. After all, the olive is only 15-20% oil and more than 50% juice. So what have we been throwing away? The answer is olive polyphenols, especially hydroxytyrosol, a highly potent and protective antioxidant. In fact, polyphenols are much more prevalent in the olive juice than in the oil. Yet it is these unique polyphenols that are considered responsible for extra virgin olive oil's health benefits. Imagine the antioxidant capacity of olive juice with up to 300 times more polyphenols than the oil![39][40] [41] [42] [43] [44] [45]

Dubious Marketing Practices:

In recent times, due to more scientific research showing that phyto-nutrients have excellent health benefits, a new antioxidant fruit drink demand in the USA and several other countries has sprung up. Largely due to slick marketing campaigns surrounding a number of significant product launches for exotic fruits such as acai, goji, mangosteen, noni and a number of others, it seems that the US is in the grip of an "antioxidant fruit drink craze" touting the latest antioxidant fruit as the new, wonder fruit that is going to save the world from degenerative diseases.

Some of the claims being made for antioxidant fruit drinks are quite extraordinary ... including weight loss and the lowering of cholesterol and curing of cancer.

The following extract about the "wonder fruit acai" is from the website Tuesday April 19th 2011

Acai Berry Marketers Accused of Fraud
Posted by Alex Parker on Tue, Apr 19, 2011 at 3:24 PM Back to Top

" Lose Weight Fast? As diet gurus will tell you, there’s no quick fix. And that pretty reporter and her stories on the health benefits of the acai berry are part of a wide-ranging scam that's been bilking consumers for years, according to the federal government. The Federal Trade Commission is cracking down on those ubiquitous advertisements featuring an attractive reporter (often the borrowed image of French TV anchor Melissa Theuriau) expounding on the alleged health benefits of acai berries. Today, it filed a lawsuit against ten operators of fake news sites that use the logos of news organizations, such as ABC, CBS, and USA Today, using them to legitimize practices that the FTC says “deceptively (entices) consumers to buy the featured acai berry weight-loss products from other merchants.”

Dubiously, claimed antioxidant rich exotic health juices, are joining those now relatively common plant products that have produced the most millionaires in the United States MLM/network marketing fraternity, Acai Aloe Vera, Mangosteen Goji and Noni. Thanks to the increasing name recognition of many of these antioxidant rich fruits and to the lack of standardized testing methods to determine the quality and amount of active ingredient, greedy suppliers, brokers and manufacturers frequently stretch small amounts of genuine antioxidant rich fruit extract or powder to literally make tens or even hundreds of litres or kilos of finished antioxidant health drink out of just one fruit alone, thereby, reaping substantial and outrageous profits. The taste of the "health" juice or drink you experience could well be mainly due to citric acid and artificial flavours added during the manufacturing process of the antioxidant drink.

This type of marketing strategy isn't new however. It's a direct result of other "exotic" fruit products like Goji, Noni and Mangosteen, netting billions in U.S. sales through direct marketing and retail sales, playing on the exotic flair of some reasonably common tropical fruit that wasn't previously well known in the US and other western countries. Since Noni's profitable appearance in the U.S. market several years ago, many enterprising companies have been searching for the next and newest (highly profitable) noni-replacement from "exotic" tropical fruits.

To further compound the situation, most of the health drinks made from "wild berry" for commercial exploitation, are reconstituted from the berry concentrate, thereby destroying much of the inherent beneficial nature of the berry due to pasteurization and the manufacturing processes the ingredients go through. Often flavours and preservatives, sodium benzoate/benzoic acid are added to allow the product to keep for indefinite periods which may cause their own problems due to the formation of carcinogenic benzene in hot bottled preparations. More modern cold bottling as carried out by better manufacturers does not create the same environment for benzene to form. However, if the product becomes hot at anytime during transport or storage, it is possible and indeed, a very probable risk, that benzene will be formed in the antioxidant formula.

Oftentimes actual mgs of active ingredients, anthocyanins, polyphenols, catechin, epicatechin, punicalagins, ellagic acid magnesium etc, in a whole bottle of liquid antioxidant health juice may be far less than what the average person would consume by eating 20 or 30 red grapes. However, there is something far worse that you should be aware of. Before consuming hyped up so-called antioxidant  liquid health drinks, you need to be sure that the manufacturing process hasn't resulted in the formation of benzene.

A reputable company using cold bottling techniques should be able to supply independent lab test results to verify their product is benzene free or at least under the acceptable official guidelines for benzene contamination in health drinks. If you are already consuming a liquid antioxidant formula make sure you ask the company for written documentation that their product has been certified free of benzene!

The Health-Report team, have looked thoroughly into many of the so-called wonder products out there and have come to the conclusion that most are not worth paying anything for as far as antioxidant health benefits are concerned. As mentioned above, you may as well eat a few dozen red grapes or perhaps black currants, or blackberries each day as pay for an exorbitantly priced bottle of antioxidant fruit juice drink, which will have little or no effect on your health.

Having said that, some manufacturers that supply freeze dried powder concentrate have been able to maintain the integrity of the original fruit. Freeze drying means the manufacturing process does not interfere with the good properties nor does it involve destructive pasteurization and preservatives to be added for liquid "health" formulas to ensure they keep for long periods.

Not all dried antioxidant formulas are created equal however. The CERTIFIED ORGANIC freeze dried product we recommend at the Health-Report site is easily the best we have ever encountered... One serving contains over 4000 ORAC units. A months supply, is equal to 123,375 ORAC units. To get the equivalent amount of ORAC units from other foods, you would have to buy the approximate quantity of the following foods or supplements - 5 kilos of blueberries - 24 bottles of Noni juice 8 kilos of raspberries - 10 bottles of Goji juice - 10 kilos of strawberries - 7 bottles of Mangosteen juice.

As you can see, the ORAC score for Berry Radical easily exceeds the recommended level of 2000 to 3000 ORAC units per day we are advised to consume by nutritionists.

Supplying yourself with quality "anti-aging" anti-oxidants along with a healthy diet, is your first and best line of prevention against metabolic diseases such as cancer and heart disease as well as preventing the onset of premature aging. Berry Radical Health Benefits:

What is known about the health benefits of a product like Berry Radical is backed by scientific research into the properties of the various fruits used in the Berry Radical blend, and is very substantial.  Acai for instance is a rich source of anthocyanins and other phenolics and phyto-nutrients. Acai berries are amongst the most nutritious foods of the Amazon, rich in B vitamins, minerals, fibre, protein and reasonable quantities of omega-3 fatty acids. Acai also contains oleic acid (omega-9), a beneficial fatty acid (often mistakenly referred to as essential).

Cacao has been shown to contain 21 times the antioxidant power or free radical scavenger value of green tea. ONE gram of freeze dried Green Coffee Berry provides the free radical scavenging capacity of over 2 kilos of red grapes. When you consider ALL the ingredients in one serving of Berry Radical, you will appreciate the powerhouse antioxidant formula this product actually is.

Minerals found in Berry Radical: Potassium and magnesium for example are abundant in the Acai berry and Raw Cacao. Acai is also rich in copper, and unusually high in manganese. A single serving of Berry Radical supplies more than adequate levels on a daily basis that the body needs of these essential minerals and trace elements, for vital health and longevity. Back to Top

Berry Radical Phytonutrients: Anthocyanins are compounds that have potent antioxidant activity, allowing for the neutralization of potentially harmful free radicals. The famous research regarding the "French Paradox" attributes anthocyanins as being the antioxidant that protects the French from heart disease. The French are known to consume large amounts of coffee, nicotine, sugar, white flour, cheese and saturated fats, yet they have a very low rate of heart disease compared to neighboring countries like the UK and Denmark. The red wine grape, due to its anthocyanins is what is believed to be responsible for the very low incidence of heart disease. While red wine has good quantities of anthocyanins, the acai berry has been shown to contain many times, in fact 15 to 30 times, the anthocyanins levels of red wine.

By neutralizing free radicals, anthocyanins from the acai berry may actually serve to maintain the healthy function of numerous systems and organs. Some of the anthocyanins that have been found in acai include cyanidin-3-glucoside and cyanidin-3-glucoside-coumarate. Other phenolics include catechin and epi-catechin (the same compounds in green tea), quercetin derivatives and other flavonoids. It's likely that the synergistic effects of these compounds, as present in acai fruit are responsible for its potent antioxidant activities. Bear in mind that acai is just one of NINE potent antioxidants in the Berry Radical Antioxidant formula and the synergizing effect of nine antioxidants could be many times greater than the individual sum of the parts.

ORAC Scale: The Oxygen Radical Absorption Capacity (ORAC) assay measures the total antioxidant activity of a biological sample. It’s a test developed for the USDA by scientists at Tufts University to measure the antioxidant speed and power of foods and supplements. The ORAC scale is used in human, agricultural, food and pharmaceutical products, as well as food ingredients and is quickly becoming the accepted standard for comparing antioxidant potential in foods and supplements.

Acai Antioxidant Benefits: For the average Western person to cope with all the reactive oxygen and free radicals they will encounter on a daily basis, foods and beverages totalling an ORAC value of at least a minimum of 2000 units per day are needed. It’s been estimated that 80-90 percent of the world’s population fails to consume even half of this level. Berry Radical is rated extremely high on the ORAC scale and provides levels multiple times that of many other well regarded antioxidant rich fruits and vegetables, such as cherries, cranberries and mulberries. Back to Top

Aging Population: As the population ages, 80% of older people in Western countries will develop at least one chronic metabolic disease. If the USDA says that high-ORAC foods may slow down aging and prevent metabolic disease from occurring, isn't it about time you increased the quantity and the QUALITY of antioxidants in your diet, by using Berry Radical, to prevent the process of metabolic disease from occurring in the first place?
